Building a Robot Live on Stream: Exploring ORB_SLAM2 and Self-Modifying Rovers

hey you wanna make a robot today
doing it live on stream in like four hours at two PM Pacific
5 Eastern we’re gonna stream for like two hours and work on the robot
last week it made friends with a cat
let’s see where this relationship takes us
by the way if you know anything about robotics
we could use some experts
trying to get something called ORB_SLAM2 (find it on GitHub) working
it’s a way for robots to use a camera to kind of know where they are in 3D space
I don’t know how it works
I’ve never used it so we’re gonna do it live and figure it out
so if you wanna watch me do some problem solving when I don’t know what to do
and I’ve never used something
you can join for that
we have four professors of computer science on this call
oh also it’s free
it’s like our free class on how to build a robot
cause we don’t we haven’t done it
and so we’re figuring it out live in front of everyone
whole robot costs like less than $50 to build
so we want everyone to be able to do the rover
it’s also like 500 total lines of code maybe
so I did during Advanced Agent Engineering
do something to the rover that allows it to upgrade itself and self modify um
so we’ll see how that works too
alright see you at 2 Pacific, 5 Eastern
