The Crow (2022): A Critical Review and Comparison to the Original

So I just got out of the theater from watching the Crow.
Actually watched it with Robert,
who’s standing right there,
and I got out of the theater,
looked up the run. Tomato score apparently debuted a 6%
and it’s worked its way up to a 13%.
I didn’t think it was actually that bad.
It’s not a total mess, it’s just very generic and pretty dull.
If you take it on its own terms
and don’t compare it to the original Crow,
it’s a serviceable enough supernatural revenge film.
It takes a very long time,
even for the murder to take place.
It takes even longer for him to really become the Crow.
The action when it happens,
it can be pretty cool, and it’s gory.
There are some very good, cool kills in this movie.
The Opera House fight is actually quite good and a lot of fun.
If the whole movie had been that,
the conversation about this film would be very different.
And so it’s just a film that kind of feels kind of lifeless.
It has a. Kind of adds a bunch of layers to the plot
that don’t really serve what you want from a Crow film,
or main villain at that. Seems like there’s this secret society
and you really learn anything about it.
So it adds something, but it also doesn’t do anything to explore it.
It’s not even interesting enough to crap on it.
It’s watchable enough if you want some Revenge.
No real reason to rush out to see this one.
If you’re in the mood for the Crow,
just go watch the one from 1994.
30 years later, still the only one that’s actually good.
