Love on the Spectrum: An Animator’s Journey

Excited about our next guest.
She is an animator, an artist,
an entrepreneur,
and she is the star of Netflix’s hit series love on the spectrum.
Say hello to Danny Bowman.
Hi, everybody,
and thank you for having me be part of the show.
I’m so honored and grateful to be here.
Of course. We are so grateful to have you here.
Your show was nominated for Emmys.
I am definitely, am so excited about this.
When I first saw it, I was like,
so excited. I was like,
over the moon for love in the spectrum.
I definitely congratulated the,
the cast and crew, Kian,
for this, for this wonderful.
Another win, another nomination,
another year of nominations for season 2.
So. So let me ask you, like, uh, why.
How does it make you feel knowing that people love the show so much?
I feel so honoured and grateful that, um,
we. That um,
that this show on love on the spectrum is not just any,
is not just any other type of autism show.
It definitely has crossed over to the general public
because over these years, if you look at the past,
some Netflix, if you look at the past,
some autism related, some shows, um,
they’re trying to attempt to cross over to the general public
with love on the spectrum.
It sure did, because it shows different abilities in all minds.
Even though we are all very different,
we are not like Green Man.
We all want. All we want is love.
Then how do you feel having the cameras follow you around,
especially when they follow you around on dates?
Well, I didn’t feel nervous or anything at all.
I didn’t really mind them having cameras, like,
all over me there. Whenever I have cameras around,
and especially with a small crew like this, um,
they’re like my wing people.
They’re always here to help.
I love that. But you,
you’re also the creator of the animation.
So tell us about that
and what it was like for you to go back to the San Diego Comic Con
with that animation. Sure.
So to start with, um,
let’s get this. Let’s get this straight.
So Danimation Entertainment is an animation company that helps educate,
elevate and empower people on the autism spectrum
by helping them turn their passion into a career
with our one week summer workshops and our one on one sessions.
I’ve started danimation in 2009.
That’s over 15 years. And at Saint You Comic Con,
we recently premiered two short films.
Isaac and the Firefly Queen,
created by one of my one on one animation students,
Peyton Hepler from North Carolina.
And the second one called Too Smart to be trendy.
And at a teen related animated short film
starring the voice of Rosie O’Donnell,
who plays as the. As the mom who tries to give advice to, um,
the main character, Ruby.
Well, how did the show?
How did the Netflix show love on the spectrum.
Since it aired or dropped,
you know, on Netflix.
Yeah, season two was on Netflix now as well.
How did that show change your life?
So I’m so grateful to get to meet a lot of fan encounters.
And people get to see. And people get to see.
A lot of the audiences were not just some people who are autistic
or the autism community. There’s.
There’s a lot of, um.
There’s a whole broad audience.
I felt that, um.
I just wanted to show everybody that, um,
anything is possible when it comes to finding love. Neuro,
neurotypical, autistic
or any ability. Well,
big, big congrats to you, Danny.
The show is wonderful. Thank you so much for stopping by.
And you can watch love on the spectrum right now on Netflix.
And Frank, back to you. Congratulations.
Thank you so much. Stay tuned for season three.
Haha, alright.
It’s news. It’s made for TV. Go ahead.
