When Imperial Tobacco launched these products in the market
last October, they did so with lifestyle advertising,
similar to what we used to see for cigarette advertising.
They had videos on Instagram,
on social media in a way that was very appealing to youth.
These products are not gonna be banned.
They’re gonna remain available, uh,
in pharmacies
for those people who would like to use them to quit smoking.
But we really need to prevent a new generation of youth
from becoming addicted to nicotine.
Nicotine is so addictive and,
you know, the current widespread availability, uh,
is helping kids get, uh, addicted.
So that’s why, uh,
these regulations are so essential
for those who want to use it for cessation,
it’ll continue to be available.
What’s good is that
instead of being sold in convenience stores and gas stations
and having promotions near the candy and chocolate bars
as Imperial Tobacco did, there’s going to be a health
professional intermediary that is going to be able to,
you know, provide that advice.
