Two NASA astronauts are still stranded on a Boeing spacecraft,
and their plan to come home on a SpaceX ship might not happen
because of incompatible spacesuits.
Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were only supposed to be in space for eight days,
but are now looking for alternatives
after their Boeing craft experienced a malfunction.
Plan B is to fly home as the fifth and sixth passengers
on a four-person spacecraft,
which means they’d have to come down to Earth
without their spacesuits on.
It’s not technically “dangerous,”
but it does offer less protection if something goes wrong with the capsule.
Another option is sending the astronauts home on a different SpaceX spacecraft
that’s set to reach the ISS in September.
The ship could reach them with only two of its usual four crew members
and send up extra spacesuits.
