The Drama Unveiled: Exploring the Intriguing Story Behind ‘It Ends with Us’ Film

Ready? Yeah. Yeah.
Let’s lock in, let’s lock in, let’s lock in.
So it ends with us, the cast.
Drama explained.
What have you guys. Have you guys heard any buzz?
I know Lena has, so sit out of this question.
It’s a movie, but none of the tea, okay?
Okay. Okay.
I’ve seen the movie too. Oh,
you saw the movie? Yeah.
Okay, good.
Okay, yeah.
So three of us here have seen the film.
Got it. I have not read the book.
I watched. Nicole Rafi did a good read through.
She has a book club on her YouTube,
if you’re interested in that.
Um, but shall we get started?
Let’s guess. I do know one other thing about this drama.
Uh huh. Is that one of the main people involved is Ryan Reynolds wife.
Yes, and she’s just stunning.
I just want to get it out of the way up front.
I. On the record,
I’m Ryan Reynolds hater. Oh,
I’ve been on the record with that.
I know, I know.
We’ve talked about it. Is this the first time you’ve come out?
No, no, no.
I think I’ve said it on the show before,
but since I, you know,
since we’re talking, gonna be talking about it today,
I think it’s important all the viewers know where we stand on Ryan.
And personally, we should.
We should close our bias over saturation of him.
So at what?
For all of it. Okay,
so at first he Had this stick where he was, like, snarky, uh,
funny asshole. Funny. Yeah.
And then he started being everything and playing the same character,
and now he’s. And.
But now he’s just a snarky, stupid,
annoying asshole that’s in every movie,
and I just can’t stand him.
With you. Wow.
That’s an interesting take.
So, yeah,
I am also a Ryan Reynolds hater,
and I’m just so tired of his stick now.
I don’t know what his involvement is,
and maybe he’s, like,
the good guy in the story.
Um, but is he even involved?
It’s just his wife. I thought.
He is involved. Blake is obviously a much bigger player in the story,
but he.
No, he’s like.
He’s in there. He’s in there.
He’s part of this drama. Juicing up.
Let’s go.
So the big, like,
main storylines or, like,
headlines that have captured people’s attention are basically
the entire cast is not following.
The director, who also starred in the film,
and also the. The writer of the novel doesn’t follow him anymore either.
Did they follow him at one point either?
Yes. Okay.
Colleen Hoover did. The.
The author did. Blake Lively,
I don’t know if she followed him before,
but as of right now, zero people in the cast follow him back,
and he follows everybody. Except for this morning.
He unfollowed Colleen Hoover.
I saw. Ooh, wow. Wow.
I love that high level, sassy drama.
Yeah, like,
you think this shit is so, like, Uh,
immature and below them, but hell nah.
So those are just like. Those are the bread crumbs.
Now, let’s start at the beginning.
Who’s the breadcrumb? Justin Baldoni.
Oh, okay.
Who also is the lead? We’ll get to the players. Okay.
Okay. Yeah.
So, initial reaction.
Before we speak about the film,
what it’s about, I want you to see some of the promo videos, um,
from press. And I wanna just talk about.
What do you think the movie is about.
Would you go see it? What’s the vibe?
Okay, so let’s watch this one.
And this is. This is Blake.
This is Blake. Blake
right now. Okay.
Honestly, I didn’t even know what she looked like.
Hello, Blake Lively here.
Colleen Hoover. And it ends with us is in theaters now.
So grab your friends, wear your florals
and head out to see it. I wanna see you again.
Grab your friends, wear your florals. Okay.
Sounds like a romcom. You think?
A romcom? Yeah. Yeah,
I’d wear florals to a romcom.
Friends and florals. Friends and florals. Yeah.
So there’s one of the videos Love, Actually.
Type of vibe. Yeah. Yeah.
So here’s another expose. This one.
Oh, no. Yeah,
I wanna. I wanna get.
I wanna know what’s going on there.
If I was being roasted, who would I want to host?
Damn, I can’t stand a roast.
I hate them. I wish everyone can stop doing them.
I don’t understand it. I think it’s So mean,
something notable is Justin Baldoni,
who directed the film and starring it,
is not in any of these interviews.
What is going on? That is weird.
Something definitely happened.
Yeah, something weird happened. Hmm. Huh.
But could. Let me watch this.
Let me watch this still. I don’t want to even talk about it. Okay.
Jenny’s opted out. One point for her opting out of cruel.
it seems like a common.
It seems like the kind of pressure that you’d see for,
like, a Marvel movie. Right?
Totally. Cause everyone’s having fun. That. Yeah.
That is a wonderful, wonderful observation,
Ethan. Absolutely put a pin in that. Yes.
So some people started to notice that Justin Baldoni,
pictured on the left of the slide,
was only photographed with his wife.
He was not photographed with.
With any of the cast.
He was caught in an interview standing next to Colleen Hoover.
He didn’t pose for any photos with Colleen Hoover.
People were very confused.
I think my bias against him is knowing that he.
And assuming he did something fucked up.
Yeah, that’s what.
That’s what I assumed when this first started happening.
That’s my bias going into this.
So
this is one of the catalysts that people are like.
This clip from the premiere.
Okay. Makes me think that something weird is happening
because Jenny Slate was asked specifically
what was it like to work with Justin Baldoni?
And the way she curved the answer,
Was like, fucking weird.
Okay, Jenny.
Okay, Jenny,
talk to me.
What was that like having him be director but also scene partner?
I mean, what an intense job, like,
like to have to do so many things.
I just found myself being like, wow,
this. I really just wanna have one job at once.
Like, I, and,
and in fact, I’ve often felt that way.
Like, I really like writing and I like it so much
and it’s special to be able to be a writer,
but, like,
yeah, I was looking around just being like,
I’m good with just acting.
I, I really, I,
I love it. I just want to do it.
I feel like I’ve only begun.
Talk to me. What was that like?
That was pretty. That was a absolute non answer.
That was fairly telling, to me at least.
Sounds like it was toxic. Yeah.
Couldn’t handle doing the different jobs.
It sounds like he was overwhelmed.
Yeah. And a mess on the set.
Yeah, that’s what she’s saying.
Yeah, that’s what it sounds like to me.
She’s saying he’s a mess. Is that this movie was marketed
the two separate camps I was referencing earlier.
This is the official poster on the left.
That is the poster that was used in movie theaters in all the promo.
However, there is a separate version of the poster
that is still up on the official.
It ends with us Instagram and on Justin’s page.
So People have assumed that this is his poster,
the one that he wanted. The one on the left is like flowers fiesta.
Yeah, right.
That’s what people are.
People are saying that it looks a bit romanticized.
It looks beautiful. It’s not necessarily telling to an audience member
who might be triggered. Yeah.
However, this one says,
we break the pattern or the pattern breaks us.
And it looks like violence.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I think it’s important to not glorify the posters and shit.
Totally. Cause if someone walks in there and, like,
they’re not really ready for that,
aware of what kind of movie is gonna be here,
I have a hunch here.
I think their fight may have been over the marketing of this,
where she’s like, yeah,
we need people. Yeah,
we need to, like,
mislead people a little bit. Yeah.
To get. To make.
To get people in the theater.
Cause nobody wants to come watch a movie about domestic abuse.
And she probably thought like,
well, once they’re here.
But you literally said at the beginning of this, like,
I would never go see this movie cause it’s just gonna make me sad.
Right, right.
And she was so. I mean,
to some extent, she’s.
She’s right. But like,
you can’t. You can’t.
You gotta be up front about it, right.
You gotta be up front about it.
And that’s just you.
But there’s a lot of people that would go to watch That.
But I think her logic is like
once they’re here, they’re gonna enjoy it.
But obviously that’s like a misleading about like a horror movie.
Cause some people don’t like horror.
Yeah, it’s not.
It’s a bad time to be. To be like intentionally misleading.
Cause movies do that all the time.
They’ll be like, uh,
market that. That happens all the time.
Where they mislead audience into thinking it’s one thing,
sure, go in the movie,
but it’s about domestic abuse.
Yeah, yeah.
So I got you. As a side note,
when Olivia asked us yesterday,
I just looked at a little bit of the preview and I was like, nope.
But I was thinking if I did go,
I would not be sober. I was.
I’m gonna smoke at least. If I would have got high and watch this movie,
that would have been fucking nightmare.
Yeah, it would have been hell on earth.
