DIY Car AC Repair: Adding Refrigerant and Pack Oil Step-by-Step Guide

So after installing the compressor,
i’mma go ahead and add some pack oil.
It’s a pack 46, I guess is what it takes.
I’mma just add about a couple ounces maybe.
And um, then I’ll show you guys how I do the vacuum
and how I add the refrigerant on it. Let’s get it.
Alright guys, I already filled it up with a.
With peg oil. Now i’mma just um,
install my new.
My new belt.
I’ll go ahead and uh, route it,
how it goes and then install it.
And I’ll show you guys right now how
once everything’s done and I’m ready to add the refrigerant.
So I’m using the Harbor Freight, uh,
kit, which includes the gauges.
I think I paid like 65 for those gauges
and like 10 bucks for the vacuum pump.
The vacuum pump works pretty good.
You just connect it to your air compressor on this end and then that.
And you connect it to the yellow one on the gauges.
And then obviously you got your uh,
discharge and uh,
you’re in inlet and outlet or whatever it is.
What is it? High pressure and low pressure ports.
And um, obviously you’re gonna Wanna open them.
Once you have it connected,
open your ports up and then open these up
and then uh, connect the compressor
and then leave it for like about 30 minutes to an hour.
Pulling vacuum. Once you left it for like about an hour or so,
make Sure. You close them from the top of the gauges only.
Leave them open on the bottom,
close them on the top, and leave it for about 30 minutes.
Make sure your gauge doesn’t, uh,
move at all. If it doesn’t move,
you’re good. You don’t have no leaks.
And you’re gonna be ready for the next step,
which is gonna be, uh,
putting the refrigerants. Uh,
the one I’m using is from Walmart Super Tech.
I used it on my, uh,
key Optima that I just sold,
and it was pretty cold, so got me three of those bottles.
I’m thinking it’s gonna take about 2,
two and a half. I still need to check, um,
exactly how much it’s gonna take and go from there.
Um, like I said,
this ten dollar pump works good for like, uh,
stuff around the house. But if you’re gonna be doing it a lot,
I recommend you getting the, uh,
better pump. It’s like 70 bucks to a hundred bucks,
but it’s well worth it. And, um,
the gauges, I really recommend them too.
Like I said, they work pretty good.
And I’ve already done my mom’s Camaro and the Kia Optima that we sold,
and it’s been working good.
So this is the third car I do,
and I’m just letting it sit for a while,
make sure we don’t got no leaks.
And then after that, I’m gonna go ahead and fill her.
Fill her up
once you’re gonna Fill it up.
You have to make sure you turn the car on,
put it on high on the AC,
and then I’ll show you guys right now,
once I’m ready to do that,
how we do it.
So now I disconnected the bottle,
I pierced it, opened it.
Now I’m open this one slowly.
I have the AC and the car on. Running on a
full AC.
Full blast on the AC. And then, um,
I open this one up,
give this kind of little shake.
It’s gonna get real cold.
I’m gonna put almost two of those cans.
I think it’s about 18 ounces that it takes.
So I’m gonna put about almost two of them.
The next one, I’m gonna weigh it with the scale,
and then we’ll go from there.
Once i’mma change it, I’ll go ahead and close the.
The knob up, and then I could change it up.
