The Iron Bowl Robbery: A Heartbreaking Tale from the Press Box

I have never watched that play.
I can queue it up for you real quick if you want me to.
I have pretty said it.
I have said it. You have mentioned a few times. Yeah.
I was in the press box, and I grew up an Auburn fan, right?
So I knew all about the Iron Bowl robbery,
the whole deal. Adam Griffith had made it that distance several times
going that direction pregame,
so we knew that he had the leg to do it.
And so when we had the one second left,
I took to my. Jinxing yourself?
I took my headset off like this,
and I slapped Kevin on the leg.
And he looked at me. I said,
here in about five minutes,
cause we’re in the middle of time out.
I said, there’s not ever gonna be a Van Tiffin ever again.
It’s gonna be Adam Griffin.
He’s gonna walk this bitch off. And.
And, you know,
putting a headset on, the play happens and.
And for fans that don’t know,
when you’re in a box,
it’s very difficult to see if a ball is good or not.
You can’t tell.
And so if you’re on the road and the fans are making noise,
and all of a sudden they just go quiet.
I mean, it’s like watching the wave. They.
I mean, in unison,
they all just do this, you know,
it’s good. And so when he hit that,
I looked and the fans Just went quiet.
Well, the ball was right.
Going right down and it fell short.
And I told him, it did fall short.
Yes, it did fall short.
I’m aware. Um,
highly aware. He came up,
he came out, run down the sideline.
I took my eyes back. I’m not gonna throw my guy on the bus.
You can go watch the film.
But I went to our contain guy and watched him,
and I really. I remember saying,
we’re good. He’s there.
And he. He jumped inside of a Auburn defender.
And when he jumped inside,
I literally. He was probably at about.
This is took place about the 40 yard line of all the other side.
I took my. I literally did this right here.
I took my headset off, I folded up my deal and I walk.
There’s a door in a press box right behind it,
and I was in the elevator.
I never.
I’ve never seen him cross midfield on that play ever in my life.
I’ve never watched it, never will watch it, ever.
So I understand. We’ll.
We’ll just call it a very lofty, uh,
postseason bonus that. That.
That play cost me, so.
Always say this. Fans take the shit personal.
I take it real. I take.
I take that one really personal.
