Creating a Realistic Football Illustration in Adobe Illustrator

How to draw a football in Adobe Illustrator.
First draw an oval,
then use the direct selection tool to convert the corners
to get the look that you would like to look like a football.
Then you’re going to add the white portion of the football
by using the line tool followed by the curvature tool
and then duplicating it to get it on both sides.
Once I have it the way that I like,
I’m gonna copy it
and then I’m gonna use the draw inside feature and paste it inside.
Then I’m gonna add the strings to the football and adjust them
and round the ends.
I like to use the align tool to get them perfectly aligned.
So line them up down the middle and then adjust the spacing,
group them together and place them in the center of your football.
When I’m done here, you can stop.
Or I like to add in some highlights and some shadows.
I add some highlights using transparency and white
and then some shadows using the Pathfinder tool
and subtracting the front
and it’s perfect way to draw a football.
