Cycle time was over an hour.
Now, the machinist was a young guy with limited experience.
And I asked him if he’d like me to fix the job,
as he had several of these parts to make.
He said, please,
this job is always a nightmare.
So I reprogrammed the part and gave the machinist the new program.
He loaded it up into the control and said,
whoa, dude,
you made a typo.
You almost had me running at 200 inches a minute instead of one.
I said, that was no typo.
That feed rate’s correct.
But he was so afraid that he refused to run it.
And told me that no machine in that facility
ran over 20 inches a minute,
even in aluminum. So I told him, fine,
I’d run it myself so he could see that it was safe.
Needless to say, after finishing that part in under five minutes.
His mind was completely blown.
And that machinist actually started to enjoy running new programs.
