Happy Sunday. This is day six of making our sourdough starter,
and I literally did not have time to feed it this morning
before church. So we just got home from church and I’m feeding it.
So it’s a little bit later than usual,
but it’s okay. It’ll be totally fine.
So let’s take a look at it.
It definitely has some beautiful bubbling going on there.
It’s looking really nice.
It’s starting to smell pretty good.
Alright. I mean,
just look at that. Yeah.
This is looking very close to being done and ready to be baking with,
which will be tomorrow.
I think we’ll bake sourdough pancakes tomorrow.
I just feel like it’s an excellent first recipe
to get your foot in the door and.
Okay, I’m gonna throw this away before it leaks on my counter. Alright.
I’ve had so many comments about why do I need to discard?
Because as the starter is becoming mature,
there’s not that much you can do with it.
Once it’s mature and active,
starting tomorrow, then you can do all kinds of stuff with your discard.
But for now, you can either just trash it
or you can put it in your compost.
I’m gonna feed it with 1 cup of flour and 1/2 cup water,
just like every single day,
and stir it up real good. So we are on day six,
and it is time to talk about a very important part of sourdough.
What are you going To name your sourdough starter,
every sourdough starter has to have a name
because it’s basically alive, right?
Ha, ha.
I don’t know for sure why it’s a thing,
but it definitely is. My other sourdough starter that I’ve had for,
hmm, almost seven years now, I named her Nelly.
So I have got to come up with a name for this starter.
And for some reason,
I just think old fashioned names fit sourdough starters.
So I’ve been thinking, and I think I’m gonna call this one Ethel.
I don’t know, maybe Beulah.
It’s just a good old name.
I’m gonna add a tad bit more water.
So
y’all be thinking about what you’re gonna name your sourdough starter.
Some people name them boy names,
some people name them girl names.
Whatever feels right.
And be sure to let me know what y’all pick.
Okay.
I just like it mixed up really nice.
There we go.
Scrape it off.
Put our coffee filter lid on there with the rubber band.
Hmm.
Hey, Ethel.
I think it fits.
Ha ha. Alright,
I will see y’all tomorrow morning for day 7.
And then we will also be baking or making pancakes with it.
So cannot wait. See y’all then.
