Lessons from Pro Athletes: Wisdom from the First Year as a Pro

I texted almost every professional athlete in my phone
what is the biggest lesson you Learned from your first year as a pro
and this is what they said
and I’m just reading these off
I asked people in the NBA
the G League overseas
the NHL the NFL
everybody I could find that it would answer
there are couple people that did it
this what the basketball players overseas said
being overseas with just two suitcases
teaches you that many things you consider needs are unnecessary
and true peace comes from non material sources
it’s pretty good it’s really good actually
never trust anyone but yourself
the only person who truly believes in you is you
there’s a balance between adapting to your environment
and staying true to yourself
finding this balance over the past years helped me to adapt my role
while remaining authentic
allowing me to truly flourish
this is from the guys in the G League
the biggest lesson I Learned is that
purpose and precision matter more than quantity
quality focus
and 50 reps beats 100 done carelessly
I like that one a lot intention intention intention
that’s a big one everyone experiences the same UPS and downs
you’re not alone that’s a big one for sure that I’ve experienced as well
keeping the right mindset everyday is crucial
with so many highs and lows in a season
I know I won’t perform my best if my mind isn’t right
that one is really good a lot of these are all mindset
if you’ve realised it’s not really about skill or ability
it’s really your mental these are from the guys in the NBA
know yourself and your strengths
focus on perfecting your top skills and making the rest functional
in the pros leverage your elite skills
they’re what teams will pay for
that one is from from my O G
next one focus on your habits
routine and consistency without worrying about others opinions
everything you do should be met to your personal needs
and ensure you are prepared not to impress others
you’re running your own race
that’s all you gotta do run your race
don’t look at the other lanes
it’s a long season with many UPS and downs
but you must stay steady and always be a pro
the key lesson I Learned is to stay committed to your routine
face tough moments and learn from them
consistency and self belief are vital
every detail matters
that’s a huge one this is from my guy in the NFL
things aren’t always what they seem
often they have little to do with your skills
a lot of it is just entertainment
that’s an interesting one
the NHL my guy in the NHL says this
it’s about learning to have fun despite the stress of a long season
the biggest lesson I got from the older guys was their ability to joke around
while still being the hardest working and most focused people
on the team
that’s it
you don’t always need my advice
my advice would be be on time
