this comment is the perfect example
of why school districts are so afraid to do anything to back up teachers
because legally they are scared shitless of parents and their lawyers
it’s something we’ve always said
we understand that when it comes down to it
they do not have our backs
when it comes down to it
it is about protecting the district and their legal liability
they’ll throw the teacher under the bus every single time
and give you a bad teacher evaluation
whenever you have all the kids in your class on phones
and not paying attention to you
they’ll dock you for having low engagement
so whether you do or don’t
you’re screwed at this point in 2024
any school district that isn’t willing to institute a no cell phone policy
does not give a shit about their teachers
and the superintendent is a coward
and you can take that to the bank
you can send this directly to your superintendent right now
and I’ll stand on business
they are unwilling to provide any infrastructure
to legitimize and support teachers
in any efforts to limit cell phone and smart device usage
every superintendent every district admin in this country
is fully aware of the data
and the scientific evidence
to support that cell phone usage and smart device usage
is harmful to children’s learning outcomes
and yet they decide to do Jack shit about it
and instead what they’re relying on
is the individual will of every single teacher in their district
to institute some kind of policy that they personally have to create and uphold
and reinforced in their own classroom
this works out in their favor
they can say that their staff is making efforts towards curbing the issue
but when it comes down to a parent pushing back on it and threatening to sue
they will 100% of the time not back the teacher
and they will delegitimize the classroom rule
and make it to where
no other teacher in that school district can really stand on that same rule
in their own classroom
if your school district doesn’t have a cellphone policy that is district wide
they do not care about you or your student outcomes
even if they’re saying it to you in every school word meeting
