Let’s go to an art event at the Rubin.
The highlight of the night was an amazing artist talk by John Sung,
who created this fantastic installation
where you communicate with the museum through this rock.
What was so special as we got to hear his interpretation of the piece?
And the most amazing thing I Learned
is that the rock actually came from the foundation of the museum.
They broke the foundation to create this rock.
And he actually referred to the rock as a little
baby piece of the Rubin. How cute is that?
John’s installation is included in the Reimagine
Himalayan Art exhibition,
where contemporary artists choose an artwork in the Rubens collection
and create an artwork in conversation.
John chose the shrine, which is basically the heart of the museum,
and his piece brings the whole museum to life.
There’s 1,000 feet of cable running up six stories of the museum
and small little microphones capturing all the noise.
And when you walk into the installation,
you hear everything that’s happening.
And then you’re able to physically touch the rock and in a way,
communicate.
And he created this installation for us to all feel connected
and a little bit less alone.
Thank you so much for the Reuben,
for having me and John, you are an amazing human.
Thank you for your art. Also,
the Reuben closes forever on October 6th.
So if you wanna see the museum, see it before it closes.
