Breaking Barriers: The Unprecedented Success of ‘It Ends With Us’ in 2024

My favorite part of the it ends with us discourse
is the part that no one’s talking about.
We’re on week three of this movie being released.
Three weeks, three weekends,
and this has already become one of the most profitable movies of 2024.
We started with a 25 million dollar production budget.
Take that number, chop it in half,
and that’s about your marketing budget.
Now, to break even,
that means to make back the money that you spent.
And for most people, they include not just a production budget,
but also marketing. So
that’s about two and a half times your budget
in today’s box office math.
So if you take that 50 million dollars they made opening weekend,
August 9th. That weekend was opening weekend.
Add it to the 29 million they made internationally,
they not only broke even opening weekend,
but they broke even and made profit.
That is beyond success. That’s incredible.
That never happens. And this is where we’re at right now.
These numbers are insane.
If you’re one of those who’s rooting for this movie to fail,
I hope your tears taste like acid.
Talking about the downfall of Blake Lively. Baby,
this is the biggest movie of her career.
She’s just getting started.
But this is such a good thing.
And let me tell you why. Anyone but you.
A romantic comedy from late 2023.
The little movie that could.
The little movie that would not give up.
I mean, incredible legs and incredible box office
Run another 25 million dollar production.
Breaks even, makes profit.
Now take this goofy little romantic comedy couple
that with it ends with us.
A romantic drama. And that’s a big bat signal to Hollywood
that the romance genre is not dead.
I’mma celebrate this because what this means is more opportunity.
More opportunities for romance authors
to see their books adapted to film.
More opportunities for actresses to lead and carry films.
And also more opportunity for women to produce films.
However you feel about the so called controversy,
it doesn’t matter anymore.
We’re three weeks in and it’s a success.
There’s no taking that away.
So congratulations to all involved.
