Navigating University: What I Wish I Knew Before Starting My First Year

This is what I wish I knew before I started my first year of university. I missed the very first fresher that we had as a uni student. If you didn’t know, there are two freshers. There’s the fresher week and then there’s the refreshers week. And the refreshers week is usually around like January. Missing out on the refreshers week literally meant I missed out on a lot of discount. You could have gotten so many free meals. You could have gotten free stuff like free clothes, free tote bags, free stationery. There’s so many free things. Sometimes they even do raffles for like free ipads, free Macbooks, things like that. So if you feel like it’s not gonna be worth it, think again. It probably will be. The second thing I wish I knew was that university is like high school with the same amount of drama with just literally no rules. So expect that there’s gonna be a lot of drama, especially if you live in the dorm. Setting up a cleaning schedule every single week was really good for us. I didn’t usually clean in the weekends because I’m not usually there in the weekends, so I used to clean like on the Friday or on the Monday, but I still made sure I clean. With that being said, make sure you clean your room, because I cleaned everything else except for my room. I don’t know why I said that in public. That was horrifying. No. 3 is if your flatmates ask you to go to the library with them to study, don’t listen to them. They will not study. Sit in your room, bring the library to your room. Don’t go to the library. Trust me. We literally just ended up people watching every single time I went. Don’t starve yourself. I literally did starve myself because I was like, oh, I don’t have enough money. I’m kind of broke. So I just didn’t eat. I lost 15 K G’s. It was very unsustainable. And I was very lethargic the entire time, so I could not really focus very well. And the worst part is your stomach will grumble in class, and that was. Is the most embarrassing thing ever. Last but not least, go over the notes before class so that you can come to class with your, like, fresh mind. This helped me a lot. I was able to get 93% in most of my exams. So, yeah, good luck and enjoy your time in first year, because now that I’ve graduated, I miss it.
