Special Counsel Jack Smith has filed his appeal in the Trump classified documents case ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Smith has asked the federal appeals court to reverse Judge Eileen Cannon’s decision to dismiss the underlying case. Last month, Cannon did that dismiss the charges against former President Trump, ruling that special counsel Smith was improperly appointed. Former president has been charged with 40 counts of illegally retaining classified information and obstructing government efforts to retrieve that material from his Mar a Lago home in Florida.
