ASUS and MSI Introduce GPU Quick Release Slots: Unnecessary Innovation or Convenient Upgrade?

Oh! In today’s episode of PC hardware manufacturers improving things that didn’t need improve, Asus MSI just debuted motherboards with GPU quick release slots, so it’s easier to uninstall a graphics card. I don’t mean to sound elitist here, I haven’t exactly been struggling with uninstalling a graphics card. So instead of the traditional method of pressing the Pcie slot connector down so the card can be removed, this new slot makes it so you never have to press that locking mechanism down. If you pull the GPU from the center, it’s not gonna come out. If you pull it from the right hand side, it won’t come out either, but if you pull it from the left side, then it will come out. The problem that they’re trying to address is when it’s sometimes difficult to get in there and press that button. You may have a beefy GPU and a huge CPU air cooler towering over it, so sometimes it can get a little tricky to get in there and press it. Yeah. This is so helpful. Oh, my god.
