Unions and Renewable Energy: How Wisconsin is Leveling the Playing Field for Job Opportunities and Environmental Progress

We in Wisconsin are a little bit behind when it comes to renewable energy and addressing climate change. The problem with renewables was the work was going to a lot of out of state non union contractors. These requirements under the Inflation Reduction Act really level the playing field and that comes with a lot of job opportunities for our members. I got nearly a $10 an hour raise. I got full benefits. Medical, vision, dental, retirement. Everything is so much safer. The apprenticeship program got me where I am today as a lead. Being a part of the union and the benefits are extremely helpful for healthcare for myself and my family. All of us being in organized labor makes me very excited to be a part of growing the state’s clean energy.
