Critical Analysis: Is Blacksmith Wukong Really Game of the Year Material?

Blacksmith Wukong is completely and utterly overhyped and overrated. Someone had to say it. I mean, the game is good, don’t get me wrong. Especially considering that this is the first triple A game that Game Science has ever made. But game of the year? Seen so many of you glazing this game like crazy calling it game of the year. Are we playing the same game? I mean, the visuals are stunning, they cooked with the presentation and world building, but everything else is just so mid take. The combat. Well, it definitely has its moments with some of the more flashy abilities. It feels utterly weightless and nowhere near as precise as similar games in the genre. And it just isn’t that fun. The level design is just straight up bad at times, and the exploration just seems tacked on at the last minute. But nothing, and I mean nothing, could take this game from good to great because of one glaring issue. The majority of the game is just one big boss rush. You fight a boss, run for a few minutes, maybe fight five to 10 common enemies, and then you’re right back into a boss. In the souls games you needed to earn those boss fights, but here it’s just boss after boss after boss and it gets extremely old and doesn’t allow for a lot of variety in gameplay. I don’t know man. Maybe we have lowered our standards because of so many bad Games but this is nowhere near game of the year material.
