What happens when powerhouse high school football program IMG Academy, who features over 30 Division 1 recruits, faces a high school team from Utah? Well, let’s just say the result was definitely not what I expect. IMG looked like the more talented team early on. Freshman phenom wide receiver Eric McFarland took this screen pass to the house on their first drive to take the lead. But Corner Canyon responded right away with this football caught by Kai Mesa in the end zone. IMG couldn’t be stopped the rest of the first half though and went into the break up 28 to 14. But Corner Canyon’s defense came alive in the second half, getting stop after stop and the duo of quarterback Hillman Kasuga and five star wide receiver Jerome Miles was cooking on offense. That duo connected on their second and third touchdowns of the game in the fourth quarter to take a 35 to 28 lead. IMG still had a chance to respond with two minutes left and Trennard Roberts was able to rush it in for the score. They decided to go for two and the win, but were stopped by the Corner Canyon defense. Corner Canyon pulls off the huge early season upset!
