Creating Classroom Rules: Inspired by The Behaviour Buddy

I have planned on going in school today and filming a new video of the rules so that I can show them to you however lucky me has now gone ill in the last week of summer holidays so you got an old video but it is the rules I also didn’t fully come up with these rules I still took inspiration from Robin Launder who runs the Behaviour Buddy I remember one of the sessions he went on about how you only need four simple rules in your classroom and they cover sort of every scenario so let’s get into it No. 1 is we are silent when the teacher is talking this is probably my biggest rule that I enforce I absolutely just don’t talk to a class if anyone is making any noise nice jump number two is we follow instructions right away I enforce this one massively being in the science room we talk about safety I talk about practicals but equally when you are asked to do any homework even if it’s written we just follow it straight away number three is we let others get on with their work so this applies to students not distracting each other and not causing any disruptions and No. 4 the biggest one is we respect each other this one obviously kind of encompasses all of the other three but generally is just something that I teach kids in my classroom respect is probably the my single biggest role I tell them they’ve got to respect themselves as a learner respect their peers around them and respect me as the teacher and depending on their age I might run through what that means so if they are 7 I might explain how respect means we put a hand up and we wait to answer a question whether that means if somebody answers the question wrong we don’t then make a comment about it we just help them get it right having these rules printed on top of my board means that throughout the year if there’s ever a class I feel the behaviour slipping in then I can just reconfirm the rules with them and redirect them to the board that’s all for now see you later
