Solving Algebraic Expressions: A Step-by-Step Guide

On another episode of Algebra 101, I’m gonna show you how to solve this problem. So I would recommend doing the distributive property first you’re gonna distribute that 4 to 5 and x with multiplication 4 times 5 is 20 and 4 times x is 4x You’re gonna write down the rest of it Next I would suggest adding like terms. For example, the 3x and the 4x are alike they make 7x and you’re gonna bring the rest of the problem down. Next you want the like terms to be on the same side of the equal sign you’re gonna move the -12x by adding 12x to both sides and might as well move the +20 by subtracting 20 from both sides the idea is for them to cancel each other out so you have the x terms on the left so 7x plus 12x is 19x and then -2 – 20 is -22. The last step is to isolate the x so you wanna divide by its coefficient 19. The 19s will cancel so x is equal to -22/19.
