Elevating the Game: Top 5 Returning Middle Blockers in College Volleyball

With the start of the volleyball season, let’s celebrate with my top five returning middle blockers. We will continue with the rest of the positions for the next four days, starting off with Georgia’s Sophie Fisher. Arguably one of the best middles in the country with these insane numbers last season, over 5.2 points per set and more than four kills per set. She is a great blocker and the reigning SEC Player of the year for a reason. And she does what few in her position can do. Finish last season as the league’s top scorer and the nation’s highest scoring middle. How about Carter Booth back at Wisconsin? Her 1.56 blocks per set was fourth in the nation last season. She’s a towering presence at the net, and on top of that, she hit 4:31 last season. Another top five national ranking. Kara Krutwig at Louisville hit 4:40 while averaging over three blocks per set last season to earn third team All American, and rightfully so. I think it’ll be even better this year. Two more and it was tough to choose, but Raven Colvin is back for her last year at Purdue. May be considered under size at her position, but you would not know cause she can touch 10 11. I think she can go off the season with a more experienced group around her. And lastly, I went with Texas A and m’s Ifenna Akpala. She LED the country last season with 1.62 blocks per Set and hit at a 3:37 clip. Should be set for another stellar year. A few more middles you must know UCLA’s Anna Dodson, FSU’s Corey Lewis, and of course Nebraska’s middles are just off the charts too. Becca Alec, Andy Jackson, and Layla Blackwell.
