Uncovering the Past: The Fascinating History and Thrilling Gameplay of Shut the Box

I wanna tell you all about this game called shut the box. My husband and I love to play board games and we found this game on the TikTok Shop. But I wanna tell you the history behind it because I feel like it’s very important that we continue to share history. This has a counting box that has tiles numbered 1 through 10, where each can be covered with a hinged or like a sliding mechanism. And throughout the game you play with a pair of dice. This game dates back to the 12th century in northern France. There’s also records of it being played in Manchester pubs in the mid 19 six. And shut the box is the basis of an American television quiz show called High Rollers, which ran from 1974 to nineteen 76 and then 1978 to 1990. To start the game, all of the tiles are up and each player will take a turn by rolling the dice into the box. And then you add up the dots on the dice and then you shut or close any of the combination of open numbers that sum up to the total of the dot showing. For example, if you roll an 8, then you can close 7 and 1 6 and 2 5 and 3 5, 2 1. You roll your dice again and then you keep rolling until you have no more numbers that you can shut. Then it goes on to the next player. And then they do the exact same thing at the very end. You add up the score on how many numbers you still have up, and whoever has the lowest number wins. This game is super fun, super fast paced, and it would be great for a family, especially if the kiddos are just learning how to add in some. But we had a great time and we will definitely be playing this a lot more. And if you are interested in it, you can visit the link below to order yours.
