United in Hope: Reflections on the 2020 Democratic National Convention

What inspired me the most about being at the Democratic National Convention is that you saw people from all walks of life, all backgrounds, all parts of our country coming together. Yes, around joy, but because it feels hopeful and joyful to be voting for so many wonderful things. To be voting for Vice President Harris, Governor Walz, to be voting for an administration that cares about all Americans, that is passed history making legislation in the Biden Harris administration to save our economy, to bolster every single service that folks need in this country. And they have so much more to do. And unlike the other side that seems to want to legislate only around hate and only to give tax cuts to billionaires like no one asked for that, our side is actually trying to rebuild a robust American middle class and to support everybody. As the governor says, rights aren’t like a pie. There’s enough to go around. You can have them, I can have them, everybody can have them, and this country can live up to its ideals, its founding promises of liberty and justice for all. That is joyful, hopeful, and we’ve actually got policy, which I guess is why we don’t have to legislate hate.
