In-Law Weekend Prep: Cooking, Cleaning, and Hosting Adventures

I am hosting my in laws this week. They’ve been enjoying a little cruise for a few days while the kids hang out at our house and are getting back today. So everyone will be spending the weekend at our house. There’s a lot of cooking to be done for everyone, so here’s everything I did to prep. First, I’m cleaning up the kitchen after breakfast so I have a clear space to cook. Emptying the dishwasher so I can stack everything in there right away as I use it. Although I already had some dishes in the sink for the first dish, I’m making a pasta, but I didn’t have all the ingredients I needed, so I made a quick grocery run to pick everything up. Once the pasta was cooking, I got some rice on the stove for the stuffed peppers, and now that the pasta is done, I already had the filling ready and got started on filling the peppers. This is one of my husband’s favourite meals and the kids love it too, so I can never go wrong with making it. While that was in the oven, I need to clean up the house a little. Usually try to do the cleaning on Thursdays, but I didn’t end up doing that this time. Honestly lost track of what day even was until today. We only have one spare bedroom, so parents will be taking that, and I’m setting up a mattress in the living room. For the kids. Do you see all these Legos? Is that what I’ve been sleeping on? Yeah. Wonderful nights of sleep I got. My sister in law and I are getting the sheets changed for parents. Peppers are finally done, so I got them out of the oven. Dad got home and took his new lawn mower for a cruise. So I gave it a little spin too. I had one more thing to make though. My sister in law baked some cookies while I worked on the filling for these dumplings. These are really good fresh, so I wanted to wait closer to dinner time to make them. And then I only had the floors left to wash. Definitely a busy day, but the weekend should be a lot more smooth sailing now.
