Unveiling the Reality of Intimate Partner Violence: Insights from a Psychiatrist and Researcher

My name is Doctor Judith. I’m a board certified psychiatrist and researcher and I’ve studied PTSD with regards to intimate partner violence extensively. And here are my thoughts on it ends with us. This is accurate. There tends to be a lot of love bombing at the beginning of these relationships because the abusers tend to be really charming. However, victims of intimate partner violence tend to be women of color and not affluent. This is accurate. Perpetrators of abuse tend to be survivors of trauma themselves, and that could be confusing for the person who’s with them because they have compassion and feel sorry for them. Usually it’s not so simple to leave the abuser because many victims are dependent on that financial income. And also it could be very dangerous. Overall, it’s great that the movie brings about awareness because one in three women will be victims of intimate partner violence.
