Reviewing ‘It Ends With Us’ by Colleen Hoover: A Rollercoaster of Emotions and Red Flags

hey everyone so I wanted to go ahead and review my August favorite it ends with us by Colleen Hoover this book definitely felt like a soap opera on steroids which I loved because I grew up watching soap operas shout out to the girls who have Dominican moms anyways Lily meets a hot and rich neurosurgeon named Ryle and everything seems great until it’s not and then her first love Atlas shows up like hey remember me?! and Lily’s like oh crap! and then it really pops off let me tell you to be honest there were moments maybe because of my previous abuse where I was definitely super engaged with the plot and I was feeling all types of emotions including feeling super scared for Lily because Ryle really was sometimes super out of pocket for me the red flags were definitely there baby you know what I’m saying like from the beginning and I really feel like his red flags were very apparent but like a lot of people who have trauma in their past you can’t really see these things it’s just patterns putting on those rose coloured glasses you know what I mean?! to be honest seeing the relationship play out felt great at the beginning and then it became sort of a master class in how to ruin a perfectly good day for yourself because one minute I’m rooting for love and reading the most epic romance of all time and then the next I’m screaming girl get out of there what are you doing he’s crazy but um I’m also the girl that stayed for four years so glass houses I’m also aware that this book has been under the microscope lately but honestly I feel like it does a good job in showing the ups and downs of being in a toxic and abusive relationship it’s like reading a superhero origin story except instead of a cape she’s got a whole lot of baggage and honestly same girl would I recommend this book? well if you’re in the mood to process trauma and reconsider your life choices then yes absolutely! but you’ve been warned you might need some tissues a punching bag and possibly a therapist on speed dial overall this book will always have a special place in my heart since it got me to read again see you next time
