Horizon Experiment: Diversifying Pop Culture Icons – The Manchurian and the Future of Representation in Comics

what if pop culture’s most notable characters like Indiana Jones or James Bond were actually representative of minority groups the horizon experiment over an Image Comics is challenging comic creators and readers to start looking at some of these genres from a different perspective now from the horizon experiment five different one shots are going to be released that challenge this concept what happens when a protagonist from a very popular genre happens to be a person of color spoiler alert it changes the story entirely now the first of these five one shots is the Manchurian and this comes to us from the creative team of Terry Dodson and Pornsak Pichetshote and this story explores the idea of a Chinese James Bond figure I had the honour of reading this just a little bit early and it was incredibly exciting and eye opening just how much someone’s culture and history affects a story and a genre that we’re already so familiar with like I said Manchurian is the first of five one shots about different characters and these will hopefully serve as like a pilot to future series Manchurian releases later in September I believe September 25th final order cut off for the Manchurian is Monday September 2nd please take my word for it and tell your local comic shop to order this for you the horizon experiment is truly something special I’m very lucky that I got to read this a little bit early I’m absolutely going to read the rest of the one shots and as I read them I will let you know what I think thank you so much to Pornsak for sending me a copy of this to read I’ll catch you all later
