Balancing Act: How a Doctor Manages Time to Share Evidence-Based Medicine Online

So I know that this video isn’t about me because I have never made a video about these topics, nor are they things that I fundamentally believe. But people do get a little spicy with me sometimes in the comments, saying like, how do you have time to be online if you’re so busy being a doctor? And this is how I’m really good at managing my time. First is that the content I’m creating is just me talking about evidence based medicine. And I had to spend eight years learning how to talk like this. During my residency, I had to basically verbatim say what a Cochrane practice Boulton said to verify that I knew what the evidence said. I had to go do my oral boards and for three hours discuss evidence based medicine with experts before I could become board certified. And now as faculty for OBGYN residents, I have to make sure that I’m up to date on everything and also tell them where the evidence is, because that’s a part of my job. So it’s very easy for me to get online and do the same thing. The second is, is that I’m very good at time management, so I will get to work about 10 minutes early to shoot one video. When you see me in this space, that’s me in my exam room about 30 minutes before I start seeing patients. I also get post call days. On these days, I’m usually running Errands, all those things. But I might find time to shoot a video here or there. That’s where you receive me. Here. This is in my bedroom. And when you see me in this space, I’m on call. So I have to spend 24 hours in the hospital, just sitting here away from my family. And so right now, we have one laboring patient, but she’s being taken care of by our midwives. So I’m just here in case of emergencies, so plenty of time to talk about the. So I don’t think that I’m failing at any of those things. I can focus on what I’m doing when I’m doing it. I can shoot my videos before work, I can see my patients, and I can be home with my kids when I’m done with work.
