Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier has reflected on the band’s historic performance during the Olympics Gojira, of course, gave metal its most cultural moment in some time with their explosive performance during the Olympics opening ceremony. And now the band’s vocalist and guitarist Joe Duplantier has reflected on the now legendary performance in a new interview with Loudwire Nights. In the interview, Duplantier says in part I thought of the whole metal community at that moment. That was a pretty mystical moment. Before it kicked in, I thought to myself, what the heck am I doing here? What is going on? Are we about to play metal on television worldwide? This is insane. When Duplantier was then asked what song he would have chosen if Gojira had the ability to choose, he continued I would be torn. What should we play? One song? Are you kidding? First, for sure. We would have gone with something that has a meaning for the situation on the planet right now. We always want to be relevant and we always want to empower people. We always want to communicate with people through our music and our art before he then expressed his satisfaction in the meaning of the song that Gojira did perform. Asa Iha Slipknot percussionist clown also recently gave his thoughts on Gojira’s monumental performance, telling Metal Hammer when I saw their performance, I was just proud to have them do that. What a huge, huge honor, what a huge performance and what An enormous metaphor. You have all these wonderful athletes, the best of the best of the best together, and someone involved thought we should get Gojira to open this up. Like Gojira are the gold medal. Ojira’s performance from the Olympics opening ceremony is now available everywhere. And you can catch the band on tour here in the States this fall supporting Korn.
