Developing Well-Rounded Coaches: The Key to Building Successful Teams

The coaches that work for me, you got to do three things. You got to recruit your position in your area really well. You got to manage the players in your room, keep them out of my office. And then you got to develop them. Yeah, not just as a football player, but also as people because of the time you get to spend with them. And you know, some coaches do one of the three really well. Yeah, but you’re not gonna be around very long. And then some people do two of the three very well. And as a head coach, it’s my job to. To maybe build up that skill set of the third, cause it’s my job to coach the coaches. And so to me, you put your time and energy in the things you don’t do well. So if I know I’m a good recruiter, but I need to learn ball a little bit more, I should spend my offseason studying ball. I should spend my offseason talking to people that I have a lot of respect for the job they do and how they do it and what their processes are.
