Nala and I recently hiked to one of the tallest peaks near Salt Lake City, Utah. We met up with our friend Luca and started our journey. Now, even though the temperatures were only about in the 70s, it got pretty warm, but fortunately there were some spots where Nala could cool off in the water and she even found a few patches of snow. Now if you do this as a day hike, it’s around 15 miles round trip, so we decided to do it as a one night backpacking trip. We arrived at our campsite near Emerald Lake later in the afternoon and had just enough time to set up our tents, make some dinner, relax for a little while, and then call it an early night. We set our alarms for around 3:45 so that we could get up and on the trail so that we can make it to the summit before sunrise. When we got to the top, the wind was absolutely ripping through, so we found a little spot for shelter and hung out away from the wind until the sun came up. Luca brought some pancake mix and a little stove and made us some pancakes while we waited for the sun to rise. We wandered around the summit for a little bit and Nala was spotted by a few of her friends that she had never met before, and of course she had to go say hello. We had to do some stomps on The summit before we decided to make the long trek back down Queen of the mountain. The entire trip ended up being around 16 to 17 miles, and while it was not the easiest trip, I definitely Learned a lot. There were some stressful moments, and if you want to learn more, check out the description down below.
