Unveiling the Concerns Surrounding Spotify’s New Audiobook Streaming: A Call to Action for Book Lovers

If you love books, you need to stop scrolling because I wanna take just one minute of your time to talk about something really important. I’m partnering with the coalition of Concerned Creators to raise awareness about an issue that affects all of us as readers, writers, members of the Booker community, content creators, all of that. Specifically, I wanna talk to you about the impact of Spotify’s new audiobook streaming. If you didn’t know already, Spotify has recently introduced audiobooks to their subscriptions and to their platform. And there is a very real concern that not only will authors be under compensated for this, but also the audiobooks are going to start to be undervalued. But also for the future of the quality of books that we as readers will have access to by bundling their subscriptions, Spotify is gonna be able to compensate musicians and authors even more poorly than they already have been. And the streaming of audiobooks, specifically on Spotify, will almost definitely push books further away from print media and towards more of a focus on streams and data as opposed to quality literature and writing things the authors actually want to write. So if you care about authors, if you’re a reader like me, I’m gonna include links to more information on this and articles that you can read in the comments, as well as the link to the violation of concern Creator’s website if you’re interested in learning more and learning about what you can do as a reader or a writer to support authors and the bookish community as a whole.
