Finding Little Falls, New York: A Jose Monkey Adventure

Oops. Jose Monkey, where am I? You asked me to figure out where this video was recorded, so I did. Hi, I’m Jose Monkey, and I find people who ask to be found. Guys, this one was a little bit tricky, but I had a hunch that helped me to narrow down my search. So what can we see? As this video begins, this person asks to be found. And I could tell right away that this video was reversed, and I needed to flip it around. As they turn the camera, we don’t really see too much at first. We get a glimpse of this sign here that appears to say Kelly’s something. Next we see this building that looked to me like a bank, but I didn’t know what kind of bank it was. Then we see this sign for Kenny Drugs. We can also see what appears to be a large communication tower here. Next we see a Dollar General, which isn’t usually very helpful. And then the person actually turns around a few times and shows us mostly the same stuff. But one thing I noticed that I didn’t see on the first turn was this sticker on the car here. I’ll come back to that. Okay, so Kinney Drugs is a chain of roughly 100 drug stores in central and northern New York and also in Vermont. But I didn’t feel like checking every single Kinney Drugs location and checking the hundreds and hundreds of Dollar General locations in New York and Vermont was just a non starter. In fact, Dollar General shows up in many of the videos that people send me because there are so many of them, but it’s almost never the way that I find the place. They’re just too many. But I thought maybe if I looked for Dollar General locations that were close to Kinney Drug locations in New York and Vermont then maybe that would help. And guys, I actually only got one location that matched, so I excitedly went to check it out. But guys, that wasn’t it. Okay, so I figured that maybe one or more of these places was not listed in the Open Street Map database, so I tried looking for that Kelly’s Place, but without knowing what kind of store it was and roughly where to look, I wasn’t really getting very far with that approach. I went back to the video. So that sticker that I saw on the car window looked like a parking sticker to me. And after squinting at it for a bit, I was pretty sure that the letters at the top said S. U. N. Y. SUNY. SUNY stands for the State University of New York, and it refers to a system of public colleges and universities in the state of New York. So I thought maybe this was near one of the SUNY campuses. But guys, there are a whole bunch of SUNY campuses all over New York State. But I thought Maybe if I concentrated on the area that seemed to have the highest concentration of SUNY campuses, maybe I could start there. I thought that looked like this area here. So I just started looking at Kinney Drug locations in that part of New York that were close to SUNY campuses. It wasn’t the most methodical approach, and I wasn’t even 100% sure I was right about that sticker. And there was always a chance that even if I was right, that this car might be really far away from any SUNY campus. But I went with my hunch. And, guys, I found it, like, five minutes later. You were here. In the parking lot near Dollar General in Little Falls, New York. As soon as I saw the satellite view for the Kenny Drugs in Little Falls, I knew it was going to be the right spot. I could see a large communications tower, a Dollar General, and a bank across the street. But the thing that really clinched it was Kelly’s Meat Market. That was a sign. I was having trouble making out. Anyway, I used the Google Street View to confirm that communication tower and the nearby buildings, as well as that bank across the street. By the way, I was never gonna find this place in the Open Street Map database. None of these places are listed. The Dollar General, Kelly’s, the bank. Just none of them. But don’t worry, because I will go and add them now. it’s Time to check which previous location was closest to this one. This time is in Season 2, episode 2 in Rexford, New York. That’s about 52 miles or 83 kilometers away from the spot. it’s your last chance to get the lettering by Karen Collab Designs before they’re gone forever. Use the code last call before Labor Day’s over. If anybody else wants you to find them, record a video where you say find me Jose Monkey or something like that on camera. Or hold up a sign that says something similar. And don’t forget to tag me in a comment on that video.
