Savoring Ikebukuro’s Flavors: A Culinary Journey Through ABC’s Legendary Teishoku Spot

Welcome back to things that look like poop but don’t taste like poop. Today I’m at one of the big three legendary teishoku spots in all of Ikebukuro. This is ABC and it’s easy as 1 2. 3. And that joke was bad, so let’s just beat it and leave me alone. Known for two things equally black curry and something called Oriental rice. I didn’t know which one to grab, but luckily they’re doing a collab with themselves and putting both on the same plate. This is a polarizing plate visually, but don’t let it get you down. The curry has some savory notes that are as deep as tool fans think tool is. There’s not much sweetness to be found here, which is welcome in Japan. If you had gokoku curry, this is like a better version of that. The tonjiru here is incredible and I nearly drank it all in one battle face. Tonjiru is basically pork miso soup, and when it’s good it’s life changing. I grabbed some chicken nanban as well because I forgot to eat breakfast cause I was working all day and night. Crispy chicken, sticky tangy sauce. It’s no surprise it’s one of my favorite dishes, even though there’s not a shred of evidence that it’s their specialty, ABC is serving it upright. The Oriental rice was a little off the wall. It was pork and Nida with a very thick, semi sweet Japanese style Chinese sauce. I got a little Crazy and mixed them together. But then I realized that the raw egg bridge is designed to prevent me from doing that. But do what you want, we got forever anyways. Sorry about all the Michael Jackson references today. I can’t help it. Speed! Join me next time while I travel around Japan eating everything from the mundane to the Super Gourmet. I post every day, so be sure to come back for more!
