Surviving the Record-Breaking Heatwave in Las Vegas: Tips and Precautions

Las Vegas is under an extreme heat warning and we’re expected to have the hottest day on record in the city’s history next week. Everyone associates Las Vegas with being hot and it’s usually toasty here during the summer, but we are entering into the hottest summer on record with a 10 day stretch that will exceed dangerous level. June was the hottest month on record with 28 days in the triple digits. We usually have around 10 in June. Currently, the heat record is 117 degrees. Next week, we’re expected to hit 1,18,1,19 or even 120.

If you’re a local, if you’re visiting or know someone who is, here’s what you need to know. This kind of heat is particularly dangerous because you don’t sweat or necessarily feel hot. The moisture evaporates immediately. You need to consume water constantly. Pools and drinking can be a bad combination. Not only will the water be warm and soupy, but you’re only gonna dehydrate yourself.

Your best bet is to stay indoors, make reservations for inside activities and do any walking that you need to do at night. I’ll put more details in the comments. Share your thoughts and follow me for all the Vegas.
