Adversaries and Allies: International Perspectives on Donald Trump’s Foreign Relations

Do you know some countries consider Donald Trump as their enemy? Donald Trump is a polarizing figure. While he has supporters, some countries view him as an adversary. Starting at No. 5 is Canada. Despite being close neighbours, Trump’s trade rhetoric and stance on environmental issues created noticeable tension between the two nations, impacting their historically friendly relationship. Coming in at No. 4 is Mexico. Trump’s tough stance on immigration and his insistence on building a wall along the southern border LED to a strained relationship with this neighbouring country. At No. 3 we have Germany. Trump’s approach to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO, his trade policies, and his withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement didn’t sit well with this European ally. No. 2 on our list is France. President Emmanuel Macron and Trump clashed on several issues from climate change to international trade, creating a strained relationship between the two leaders. And finally at No. 1, we have Iran. Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal and his maximum pressure campaign severely worsened relations with this Middle Eastern nation.
