Surviving Parenthood: A Tale of Unexpected Emergencies and Last-Minute Decisions

Last night, I almost didn’t put the LED monitor on the baby because it hasn’t been connecting to the hotel Wi-Fi, which means it can’t connect my phone to give me the oxygen and heart rate numbers. But I last minute decided to sneak it on her because it at least still connect see a Bluetooth, and will still alert me when something goes wrong, which, by the way, it’s never done, thank goodness. But around midnight last night, I woke up to it blaring in my ear, flashing red. So I literally sprinted out of my bed to grab her, and she was extremely lethargic with a fever. I’m so freaking thankful that I last minute decided to throw the outlet on her. That she couldn’t have let me know that something was wrong. I’m still not sure it was the heart rate or oxygen that was affected, but I was able to get her attempt to drop to 100.4. That’s the lowest I’ve been able to get it. She’s still not quite herself, but we’re doing the best that we can over here on the little sleep that we could get. We’re still two hours from home. Last year, when we were seven hours away at Disneyland, Flora fell and busted her chin open on a hotel rollaway bed and landed herself in the ER so they could glue it closed. we turned around and drove seven hours the next morning to get home, which was brutal. Never had a vacation go without a hospital trip or illness. We call it vacation relax. Which kid will be this time? You’d be surprised to know. As wild as our boys are, 99% of the time it’s one of the girls. This is my fourth time reheating my coffee. I should have just thrown ice in it.
