Efficiency and Precision: Nail Tech Tips and Tricks for Faster Manicures

Happy Monday. I just wanted to get on here and show my fellow nail techs a few tips and tricks that I have to make doing nails faster. So I’ve been doing nails for three and a half years. I only do gel polish manicures, and my appointments run 45 minutes. Now, if I know my client is going to get a crazy design or get a design on every nail, I will adjust the time of the appointment. But my standard appointments are 45 minutes. The first tip is to hold the polish in your hand as you’re painting instead of having it on the table, so you don’t have to go and dip into the polish. It’s right there in your hand. Use your pinky to stabilize your hand as you’re painting. If you don’t use your pinky to stabilize, then your hand is just gonna be everywhere, and then you don’t have as much control. And then my third tip is whenever you’re doing designs, use your thumb as, like, a little palette. This also helps whenever you have too much polish on the brush. It helps, like, even out on the bristles, how much polish there is. As you do nails, longer, you will figure out what works for you, what process you need to take. Um, and then also, as you develop a relationship with your client, you will figure out what style of nails they want, what designs they usually get, and then you’ll Figure out if you and your client talk a lot so that, you know, depends on the time as well. Some of these tips are going to be kind of, like, self explanatory, but as a beginner nail tech, I feel like you really aren’t taught some of these things. So I wanted to teach you.
