Underperforming Potential: The Five Most Disappointing MLB Players of the Season

With one month remaining in the season, these have been the five most disappointing MLB players at five. White Langford has been a massive disappointment this season. Yes, he’s a rookie, but by many people he was the rookie of the year favorite. He might barely finish in the top eight of rookie of the year discussion in the American League. He’s been a below average hitter. And where’s the power? Next I’ve got David Bednar, who had been one of the best closers in Major League Baseball for the last few seasons. He’s been a flat out disaster with over a six ERA, and now he’s been officially demoted from the closer role. No surprise. Another Texas Rangers player, Adolis Garcia, has taken this season off. His OPS+ makes him a below average hitter and he doesn’t even have a one WAR on the season. This is coming from a guy who had over 100 Rbis last year with nearly 40 home runs at 2. Julio Rodriguez. While he’s been better than the other players on this list, a lot of people thought he could be an MVP candidate this season. Instead he has just 13 home runs after hitting over 30 last year. It has been a massive step back for a player in a Mariners lineup that could have really used his offense this year. Biggest disappointment during this season so far has definitely been Jordan Montgomery. It got so bad he got removed from the Arizona Diamondbacks starting rotation
