Title: Redefining Deservingness: Ethics in Achieving Success and Recognition

We often feel deserving of things if we have behaved well, complied with norms or expectations, or met goals. I deserve to be promoted because I brought in more business than anyone else on my team. But hold on. Two things. One, who said that this is a meritocracy that rewards people equitably? 2. How did you bring in more business? Did you steal an account or two or offer favors or gifts to prospective customers that were not in compliance with rules? We need to hold ourselves to higher standards, not cut corners or jeopardize others through our efforts or accomplishments.
