so earlier today I got to go see It Ends With Us over at my AMC Theatres and to be honest with you I kinda like the movie so to be totally upfront with all of you I’m coming at this movie as someone who has never read the original book so I can’t speak to a lot of the accurate adaptation from what’s in the novel into what’s in the movie there’s a lot of fans of the novel of the book out there and I acknowledge that but as someone who has never read that and coming at this with completely fresh eyes I actually thought that the way that this movie was delivered and the way that it was produced and handled I thought that everything about it was actually pretty solid it deals with some heavy subject matter and it definitely takes a little bit of time to get to all that stuff but the way that it actually executes all of it I think it’s pretty well done so if you don’t know anything about It Ends With Us the story is about a young woman named Lily Bloom who’s played by Blake Lively in the movie she moves to the big city in Boston in order to start up her own flower shop her own business and she comes from a family that has a lot of generational trauma from uh husbands that end up beating their wives a lot of domestic abuse stuff or domestic violence stuff which is a pretty serious thing but the movie takes its time and its slow burns to a lot of the much more crazier much more severe subject matter and some people I think it might be too slow to burn because the way that this movie kinda presents itself at first doesn’t seem like it’s gonna get into that type of stuff and the way that the movie was marketed doesn’t really give you that idea that you’ll be getting to some serious things like this but when you’re actually watching the movie and you’re starting to see like the progression of everything like you know from the very first time that Lily meets her first husband as well as also all the other characters that are involved with this story you start to see like things slowly come together and for me personally as a viewer of just the movie not knowing what goes on in the book I think that it was still well done I think it was handled with the maturity that it needed to be handled with so right from the get go this is definitely a Blake Lively movie she’s the anchor of everything else that happens in the entire story but I also have to give a big shout out to Justin Baldoni who’s also the director of this film but he also plays the main quote unquote antagonist were the first husband of Lily Bloom and all the stuff that happens with the domestic violence that progressively starts to come into light or come to the surface as the movie and the story goes along um as far as the other characters are concerned there’s a lot of side characters that do have a presence there but they don’t really do all that much in the grand scheme of things we have Brandon Sklenar I think that’s how you pronounce a Sklenar who was plays Atlas he’s like the childhood sweetheart of Lily Bloom that also when he gets older and later on in life when they finally meet he has his own restaurant that they go to as well as also Jenny Slate who plays Allysa which is like I believe it’s um what is it Lily’s best friend who also plays the brother of Ryle who is Justin’s character um and again everybody knows each other in some sort of way the main thing is though is that both Atlas and Allysa they’re only there for certain scenes and they don’t really do as much there’s almost a point where it feels like the movie kinda forgets them and I don’t know if it’s like that in the book but at least when they’re there they have some emotional moments hands again it keeps things moving really the more bigger focus of the film is on Lily herself the way that she’s seeing everything from her perspective her emotions her reactions to a lot of stuff and then obviously when things get very heavy handed and get really serious with the domestic violence stuff, just seeing her reactions and just her overall again just the way that she just looks like will really impact you especially if you know anything about the book or you know anything about the subject matter all that being said however I will say to as far as one big criticism of the film is that there are definitely moments that I did feel like we’re maybe a little bit too cheesy a little bit much more along the lines of like something like Gossip Girl I mean it’s hard to not think of Gossip Girl when you’re seeing Blake Lively because obviously that was her most famous series she did on TV but as far as the pacing as far as just the overall tone of the film when things are light hearted that’s how it feels it feels like Lily her character or Blake Lively’s character is just in the city and she’s going through the motions trying to make it in the city and her own life and all this other stuff until it gets to the much more serious stuff and I feel like that’s where the movie really shines when they start to see you know different characters and different actors and actresses really start to play with the actual content that they’re given really starting to show emotion I feel like Blake Lively as far as her reactions and emotions she puts on display are actually really good you actually believe like this is a woman that’s like trying to process a lot of the stuff that’s going on and when things start to hit her and she starts to realize what’s going on you really see that transition in real time and it’s all the emotion and the portrayal that Blake Lively puts on the screen now the only exception to all that I just said this one scene in the movie that’s towards the end of it where they’re actually in a hospital somebody’s given birth and there’s a very cheesy very almost borderline unbelievable scene when one character is talking to another and they’re getting like I guess you can say quote unquote some sort of like payback or sort of sort of like revenge or just desserts with everything that’s happened in the film and it just feels a little bit too unbelievable to me feels a little bit too over exaggerate or at least the timing of it feels like okay like this just this doesn’t seem like the right moment to bring this type of stuff up but again maybe outside of just that one scene everything else I feel like was totally done fine it’s just that one scene I think sticks out the most and when you see it you’ll know exactly what I’m referring to beyond that do I think that you should actually go watch it ends with us in theaters I think it’s still a solid movie to experience a lot of the controversy with this film I feel like it’s not representative of the content that’s actually in the movie I feel like there was a whole bunch of other conversations that were going on outside of what the movie was actually getting into and the way that it approached it I feel like this is still a solid watch despite my criticisms if you wanna wait for it on streaming definitely watch it when you can cause I feel like it’s still a good well executed movie despite the subject matter being pretty serious I know a lot of people will feel a certain way about it but give it a chance when you can because I feel like you’re gonna enjoy at least some sort of element that’s in here despite all the other stuff that I’ve mentioned anyway those are my thoughts about It Ends With Us let me know some of your thoughts about the movie down below in the comment section have you had a chance to see it in theaters yet what do
