For many years, it felt like Katie Holmes was in hiding. But now articles like this are being published with Katie Holmes out and about saying that she’s making her comeback to Broadway. Also recently seen her helping her daughter unpack at school. And while most of us have been fascinated with her personal life, we did sort of forget about her career. While it seemed like her career was taking off with the Dark Knight trilogy, it was her marriage to Tom that seemed to put everything on hold. These two got engaged eight weeks after they met. And four months after that, we find out that Katie is pregnant with Suri. By the time they were getting married, Suri was already a few months old. And let’s not forget, Katie had a long term relationship with Chris Klein, and she was actually engaged to him just a few months before her and Tom started dating. And in an interview where they were asking her about her future plans to wed Chris, she said, well, I always imagine myself actually marrying Tom Cruise. It was a joke. Or was it? In 2,005, these two went on many spontaneous dates. And just shortly after they were seen out in public for the first time, they made their romance official. Tomkat was a big deal back in 2,005, and we were seeing them on the cover of every magazine. But looking back at it now as an adult, Tom on the couch, Katie and Tom on these crazy romantic dates, very public. I can’t help but feel like somebody curated this and that somehow it was all for show. I don’t even really look at the Tom jumping on Oprah’s couch as weird as I once did back in 2005. She seemed excited, happy, in love, but there was something off. And it wasn’t until Katie did an interview after she had gotten engaged to Tom, where she talked about Scientology. The interviewer reported that there was somebody by Katie’s side helping her to answer the questions. She talked about how she was exploring Scientology and was really enjoying it so far. And then there was an interview of Tom saying that he didn’t want Katie playing weak roles, that Katie should only be playing strong female roles. In the moment, it sort of seemed like a fleeting comment until we found out that Katie turned down her role in the trilogy of Dark Knight. Moving forward. Then we find out that Katie turns down the role of Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl. Katie supposedly dropped out very last minute. They hired her, and then before filming came, she turned down the role. Apparently, Scientology does not believe in psychiatry, and throughout Edie’s life, she was in and out of mental institutions. Then shortly after that, Suri was presented to the world. And then Katie and Tom wed in 2006. And between 2 thousand six and 2,010, we don’t really see or Hear from Katie, Katie’s career seems almost non existent for a couple of years. And then we see this clip surface of Katie doing a seductive little number by Tom Cruise’s side at a charity event. This is during a time where everything seems to be about Tom. Every interview that Katie has seems to all be about Tom. She gushes over him, she talks about their love story, and nothing seems to be about her until 2,012, when Katie flies to New York City with Suri by her side. This is all while Tom is away filming for a movie. And shortly after an interview where Tom says that he and Katie are doing really well, in reality, Katie fled to New York City. And she took the counsel of her father, who was a very powerful attorney, and he helped her navigate a very top secret divorce. Many publications at the time reported that the reason Katie filed in New York is because it is much easier to get sole custody of your child that way, whereas a place like California is more likely to offer shared custody. And we rooted for her because finally she seemed to be free from Tom and from Scientology. And her and her daughter Suri were on their way to living a new life. Then we saw Katie start to act again. Usually smaller films, nothing with huge box office success. But it felt like she was working on making her way back into acting. But again, she still kept things very private, and we barely saw her out and about until, of course, her favorite relationship of mine, which was the relationship she had with Jamie Foxx, which a lot of you seem to forget about now. They’re not together anymore. But when Katie started to be in the public eye again, she was attending events with Jamie. And although Katie seems to be single right now, I’m just happy we’re getting photos of her out and about in New York City and not hiding from the world. And I’m also happy to hear that she is going back to Broadway.
