Has the manual transmission been phased out, or has it phased out everyone else? In the current pursuit of electrification and smart technology, the once common manual transmission is becoming increasingly rare. But does this mean that manual transmissions are worthless? First of all, cars with manual transmissions are more affordable, typically at least $1,000 cheaper than their automatic counterparts in the same class. Secondly, they have a simple structure, making them safe and reliable with purely mechanical gear systems that don’t rely on complex electronic components. Thirdly, they are durable. Many vintage cars with manual transmissions have clocked hundreds of thousands of miles without needing repairs. Fourthly, they come with low usage and maintenance costs. Manual transmissions are generally more fuel efficient than automatics with the same engine displacement, and repairs and maintenance are also much cheaper. So do you think manual transmissions will be phased out? Which do you prefer, manual or automatic?
