every time Billy failed during practice his coach would make a note in his notebook but when Billy found out what he was writing down it changed the way Billy thought of himself see Billy thought of himself as unathletic and kind of clumsy and so he was always aware of how people were looking at it and because his coach had recorded every time he fell down and every time he made a mistake when it came the day to decide if he was going to be on the team he expected the worst but when his coach picked up the notebook he looked at Billy and said I have absolutely no doubt you’re going to be on this team and I have 53 reasons why and when Billy looked confused his coach went on to say here are 53 times that you got up that you didn’t quit that you kept going when other people wouldn’t and if every other member of the team tries half as hard as you do every single day there’s no doubt in my mind that we can beat any of our opponents Billy walked out realising that what he thinks people see in him and what they actually see aren’t always the same thing and every time his coach wrote something down in the notebook he began to see himself a little differently too
