Navigating the Ups and Downs of Drag Show Success

Hi, I’m Jessica Lahor and I’m back with another full time drag business tip. Not all shows will be successful. If you’re a full time entertainer. You have to go with the ebb and the flow of understanding that depending on the environment, depending on the day of the week, depending on what day your show is, just depending on how burnt out people are, depending on promotions and more factors always contribute to the success of a show. That isn’t to knock the consistencies of having bad shows. If you’re having constant shows with zero to little attendance, that may be something to reevaluate as a venue business and entertainment business. Of something not working. But if you are having consistently sold out shows, you have longevity with the venue, you have a great relationship with your audience. Even in those cases, sometimes shows just flop and that’s part of the business. You cannot take it personally. You cannot sit there and think that it is because of the value of you lack of effort on either party, or because you don’t bring great talents to the the space. Sometimes when at full time entertainers get their a couple first show flops, they really eat themselves up inside without looking at the overall factors. And I’m here to tell you, don’t even let it get to you. Just make the next one even better. The next best show is right around the corner. Flops happen. Just know that this Shit happens, and it’s okay. It’s gonna be okay. Pull yourself together and make the next one just as kick ass as you already know that you are.
