Creating for the Fun of It: The Story Behind my YouTube Channel

So I have this YouTube channel that I started a few years ago. It currently has about 3,000 subscribers and I want to explain to you why I want to keep it that way. So I started it back in 2020 to document the process of my husband and I buying a cargo van and converting it into a camper and then eventually started documenting our trips as well. There have been many times when I’ve considered trying to turn this into something bigger than it is, like essentially trying to make travel vlogging my full time job. But ultimately I’ve decided not to. The thing is I don’t travel full time. I only travel a few months out of the year. So it’s really hard to keep up a consistent posting schedule for it. But also probably the main reason why is that I think it’s really, really good for creators to have hobbies and side projects. Back when I first started my main YouTube channel when I was in high school, it was such a passion project for me. It was just like very fun to make videos and I look forward to doing that after I was done my school work. But since YouTube has become my full time job, I really miss that feeling of creating just for the sake of creating. So this channel has really become that space for me where I can create just for the fun of creating for the sake of Documenting my own memories and not worry so much about optimizing for the algorithm or for metrics. And I think it’s so vital for creators to have that kind of outlet. Starting a YouTube channel doesn’t always have to be about getting lots of subscribers or making lots of money. Sometimes it can just simply be a really fun hobby that you enjoy doing. And that’s what this channel is for me.
