Navigating the Recruitment Process: Understanding the Significance of Being Passed to the Hiring Manager

There’s something most people don’t understand. When a recruiter says to you, hey, this was a good conversation. I’m going to pass you on to the hiring manager, it doesn’t mean you got an interview. Let me be clear. They did not say, I am scheduling you for a meeting with the hiring manager. They said, I am passing you along to the hiring manager. They are likely going to pass along about 10 candidates to that hiring manager, and that hiring manager is probably gonna only choose five to interview. So if a recruiter says to you, hey, this is a good conversation. I’m gonna pass you onto the hiring manager, that’s an opportunity for you to say, oh, I’m so excited. Can you tell me, what do you think that hiring manager will be looking for in order to ultimately choose me for an interview? See the difference there? Now you have an opportunity for that recruiter to give you some feedback and say, well, the hiring manager is gonna be looking for three to five people that fit these qualities. And then you can say back, is there anything that I said today that makes you feel like I wouldn’t be able to do that? Like, what else can I provide you at this point to go from being considered but actually being selected to earn the interview?
